Quick summary

  • The address is 서울특별시 성북구 선잠로2길 19(성북동) (19 Seonjam-ro 2-gil, Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul). Phone: 02-3789-9770. Email: eonseoul@mofa.gov.np.
  • Office hours are Monday to Friday, 09:30~17:30. Consular services (passport and notary applications) are 09:30~14:00. The embassy is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Nepali and Korean public holidays. Check the closure notices on the website before you go.
  • You can renew your passport when it expires within 1 year, is lost, is damaged, or has wrong information. First you must do the online pre-registration and bring the screen with the barcode.
  • There is a Labour Counsellor at the embassy. For wages, accidents, or going home, contact labourkorea@mofa.gov.np. For legal problems, contact legal.eonseoul@mofa.gov.np.
  • The embassy does not do the work of Korean government offices (고용센터 (Employment Center) and immigration) for you. For unpaid wages or changing workplaces, see Where to get help.

When does this apply to you?

  • Your passport expires within 1 year, or you lost your passport, or it is torn. You need a valid passport to extend your stay or to be re-hired.
  • Your family must handle things in Nepal for you, such as buying or selling land, a house, or a car, a bank loan, or a court case, so you need a power of attorney (a paper that lets another person act for you).
  • A child was born in Korea, or a family member or coworker died.
  • You are changing to a skilled visa such as E-7 and need consular attestation of your employment contract (the embassy confirms the document).
  • You were held by the police or had a serious accident and need help from the Nepal government.

Steps

Passport renewal and reissue (e-passport)

  1. Online pre-registration — Fill in the e-Passport application at online.nepalpassport.gov.np. After you submit it, take a screenshot of the screen with the barcode and the WPT number.
  2. Apply in person — Go to the embassy during consular service hours (09:30~14:00). They take your photo and fingerprints there, so you must go yourself. You do not need to bring photos.
  3. Pay the fee — New passport or renewal for adults: 230,000원. Under 10 years old: 115,000원. Reissue for a lost or damaged passport: adults 460,000원, under 10 years old 230,000원.
  4. Pick up — The website does not say how long it takes. When you apply, be sure to ask how long it will take and how you will receive it. A reissue for a lost passport takes longer because Nepal must check it first.

Power of attorney (अधिकृत वारेसनामा)

  1. Ask a lawyer in Nepal to prepare 2 copies of the power of attorney and a statement from the person giving the power. The lawyer's name and registration number must be written on them.
  2. Book a visit time in advance by phone or email.
  3. The person giving the power must go in person and sign in front of the head of the embassy. You need the signatures and fingerprints of 2 witnesses.
  4. Fee: 55,000원.

Birth and death registration

  1. Fill in the registration information form at public.donidcr.gov.np and get a token number.
  2. Submit the documents to the embassy. It is free within 35 days after the birth or death. After 35 days, it costs 40,000원.
  3. To use a birth certificate for a child born in Korea in Nepal, it must first be confirmed by 외교부 (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea) (apostille or consular confirmation), and then certified by the embassy.

The Labour Counsellor and emergencies

  • The Labour Counsellor is a diplomat sent by the Nepal Ministry of Labour. For unpaid wages, work accidents, deaths, help going home, and disputes with your company, the Labour Counsellor is the contact point on the Nepal government side. Under Korean law, you must file the report or complaint yourself with 고용노동부 (Ministry of Employment and Labor) (1350). But the Labour Counsellor can help you sort out the situation and contact the company and offices.
  • Death — The family tells the embassy. Work out the order of steps with the embassy: death registration, sending the body home, and contacting the company and insurance (출국만기보험 (departure guarantee insurance) and 산재 (industrial accident insurance)). Get the death certificate and police report in English.
  • Detention or arrest — You or a coworker can ask the police to "tell the Nepal embassy." Also inform the embassy's legal email (legal.eonseoul@mofa.gov.np). The embassy does not hire a lawyer for you, but it helps contact your family and arranges consular visits.
  • The embassy holds Labour Awareness programs in different regions and posts notices on its website.

Things to watch out for

  • Consular services close at 2:00 PM. If you come from outside Seoul, plan to arrive early in the morning. Ask your company for annual leave or a half day off in advance.
  • If you go without the online pre-registration, they will not accept your passport application. It is safest to save the screenshot on your phone and also print one copy on paper.
  • The fees are based on the website as of October 2026. They may change because of exchange rates and rules, so check before you visit. Also ask by phone how you can pay (cash, card, or bank transfer).
  • They accept renewal only from 1 year before the passport expires. You cannot apply before that. On the other hand, a passport with little time left can cause problems when you extend your stay, so apply as soon as it is within 1 year of expiry.
  • For a power of attorney, if even one document is missing, the application is refused. Check the document list again by phone with your lawyer in Nepal.
  • The embassy does not change your company or extend your visa. 고용센터 and 출입국·외국인관서 (Immigration Office) do that.
  • Public holidays include Nepali festivals (Dashain and Tihar). If you go without checking the closure notice, you may make the trip for nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Q. My passport still has 2 years left. Can I change it early? A. No. They only accept it when it expires within 1 year, is lost, is damaged, or has wrong information.

Q. I have an old MRP passport. Can I keep using it? A. Yes, you can use it until it expires. When you renew, you get an e-passport. Nepal no longer issues new MRP passports.

Q. I cannot go on a weekday because of work. Can I apply by mail or send someone else? A. For passports and powers of attorney, you must go in person as a rule, because of fingerprints and signatures. For other services, call the embassy to ask if you can apply by mail.

Q. How much is the fee, and how many days does it take? A. The fees are as shown above (based on the website as of 2026-10). The official guide does not say how long it takes, so you must ask when you apply.

Q. I was not paid my wages. Can I report it to the embassy? A. You must report it to 고용노동부 (1350, 노동포털 (Labor Portal)). You can tell the embassy Labour Counsellor about your situation and ask for support. For how to report, see Reporting unpaid wages.
